Post High School Career: Graduated college with honors with 3.57 GPA; Played in the Brooklyn (Los Angeles) Dodgers organization four years and the Salem Senators for six years; Coached Cleveland and Wilson high school baseball for 19 years.
He was Portland State University baseball coach, retiring in 1994 after 20 straight seasons with a winning record and compiling a 630-439 record; won conference championships in the NCAA Division 1 North Pacific League and PAC-10 Northern Division; placed in the upper division eight times in 11 years; Member of the following Halls of Fame: Oregon Sports, Oregon High School Coaches, Portland Interscholastic League, Cleveland High, Portland State University, and American Baseball Coaches Association. Some 35 players he has coached signed professional baseball contracts.
He was State of Oregon Coach of the Year in 1973 after his American Legion team placed third in the American Legion World Series. At one stretch, his Legion teams went four and half years without losing a game in league play. Among other honors, Nor-Pac Coach of the Year, 1977; Pac-10 Coach of the Year, 1984; Oregonian's Distinguished Career Award; the Rollie Truitt Award for contribution to baseball, 1972. He has led numerous baseball coaches organizations, conducted countless clinics, written numerous articles, and has been a featured speaker at many banquets, tournaments, and clinics.
