High School Honors: Pitched in Babe Ruth World Series in 1955; led Lincoln to State HS baseball championship in 1956, striking out 18 Medford batters in final game; pitched in Babe Ruth World Series in 1956 with his team - Barnard Motors - finishing third

Post High School Career: Pitched American Junior Legion ball in 1957 and led his team to second place in World Tournament; played for Johnny Pesky at Knoxville TN, 1959-61; called up to Detroit Tigers in 1963; won three games in World Series in 1963 to lead Detroit to championship.
