I was blessed to have two very active parents that exposed me to a ton of activities and sports when I was young. Being active daily was our lifestyle it wasn't something "we had to do...we just did." My husband and I have carried that tradition on with our two boys. My parents also never missed a game whether it was soccer, basketball or softball, and this continued on to my college basketball playing years and even into my co-ed softball adult years. Having a supportive family is key to athletic success.

Sports and being a part of team if metaphorical for life; you learn that you will have teammates that can finish your thought without a word — with the completion of a pass, or a goal in the back of the net. And then you have teammates who without great communication, the plays break down. You learn to work for people you want to model and those that you don't. You learn what type of teammate or person you want to be by the way another teammate or person treats you.

My best friends to this day are from many of my youth and high school sports teams I played on. There is not a stronger bond then those that have gone into competition with you and weathered the losses and celebrated the wins.
