Commentary:
Playing sports has always been where I feel the most confident and comfortable. There is something about the challenges, the camaraderie, and the blood, sweat, and cheers! Nothing beats the feeling. And, of course, the tears–which remind me how much we care.
Playing sports [especially soccer] at Cleveland will always be one of the best times in my life. Starting varsity as a freshman–all the nervous excitement, and my family paying money to see me play, made me feel like a celebrity. Working hard and goofing around in practice with my teammates, made me feel like I was part of a chosen family.
I will never forget the way I felt with my teammates on my high school teams. All the hours spent creating locker posters for secret pals. Singing at the top of our lungs out the bus windows driving to games. Exhausted, and dripping wet from rain and mud, but making tackles anyways. The embraces and jubilation after scores and wins versus rivals. And most memorable, becoming fast, best friends with teammates who I had the most respect and admiration for.
I will forever be thankful for my parents, grandparents, and countless others who supported me season-after-season growing up. And I consider myself very fortunate to still love and compete in sports today, because they have always been such a positive force in my life.
Lastly, I will always smile with joy that comes from a deep place in my heart, thinking about all of my CHS teammates who made me the happiest person in the world when I was out there playing with them. GO WARRIORS!!
