Commentary:
Athletics have taught me a lot of life skills, including teamwork, hard work, and goal setting. Athletics helped me create my own identity which improved my self-esteem and confidence as a young girl. I would not be the person I am today without the experiences I obtained through athletics.
I would never have been given so many athletic opportunities without the love and support I experienced from my parents. As I pursued my athletic career and life in general, their support and encouragement was monumental.
From early in my life, my father was my coach and my mother was a constant encouraging presence. As my love for basketball grew and I wanted to compete at higher levels my parents supported me through all of it. As a child, I did not fully grasp the sacrifices my family made for me or the expenses of club ball and travel teams. Now that I am grown with kids of my own, I fully understand the sacrifices that were made for me and truly appreciate and be thankful for all of the opportunities my parents provided.
