Commentary:

Reflecting on my time as a General, I realize that some of the most impactful moments of my life were shaped by my experience in high school athletics. Sports have played a huge role in the person I am today. The lessons learned, the relationships established, and having sports as an outlet– along with being surrounded by coaches and staff who saw something in me that I didn’t always see in myself– are things I do not take for granted. Thank you for pushing me, today I pay it forward in my work in the community.
To my parents: (though both are no longer here) My mother, my biggest supporter and advocate, thank you for being my everything. To my father, your legacy lives on. I hope I’ve made both of you proud and carried forward the lessons you taught me.
To my older brother, thank you for setting the bar high and showing me what it means to be a student-athlete. It seems like yesterday I was 8 years old trying to fit into your varsity jerseys. You’ve always been my inspiration, and I am grateful to have had your guidance and support.
Last but not least, to my teammates, who are close friends still to this day: this honor belongs to all of us. The time we spent together building relationships, making memories, and forming bonds is something I will cherish forever. Without you, none of this would have been possible.
