Leading hitter and Sportsmanship Award winner for Lincoln American Legion Team which took 2nd in national Legion World Series at Billings, Mont. Hayward Award “champion of champions” 1957 from Oregon Sportswriters and Sportscasters for prep baseball achievements. Metro-State All-Star.

Post High School Career: Yakima Junior College, 1 semester; signed pro contract with Pittsburgh Pirates organization; played three years of class A pro ball in the midwest as a third-baseman and pitcher. Printing equipment sales.
