High School Honors: Led the Cardinals to basketball state championship in 1951, averaging 38.3 points per game and setting a single game scoring record with 51 points; his four-game point total was 166; All-Tournament first team choice in 1951 and 1952

Post High School Career: Played collegiately at Oregon State University, earning All-American honors in 1955; his final college game was against University of San Francisco with Will Russell and K.C. Jones, the team that went on to win its second consecutive NCAA title; played in National Industrial Basketball League five seasons, leading the Vickers to the 1959 AAU title; joined the Syracuse Nationals of the NBA in 1959, helping the Nats sweep Philadelphia and Wilt Chamberlain.
