Dwight Jaynes is a long-time friend of the PIL Hall
of Fame. His roots extend to Cleveland High School, where he played Baseball under legendary Coach Jack Dunn.
Dwight was a former Portland sportswriter and columnist for The Oregonian and the Portland Tribune. At both papers he always paid particular attention to PIL Athletics and for several years was a volunteer Master of Ceremonies at PIL Hall of Fame Induction Banquets.
Jaynes now works for NBC Sports Northwest as an on-air host and digital editor. He has co-authored 2 books and has been named Oregon’s Sports Writer of the Year five times and Sportscaster of the Year for 2013 — the first person to win both awards. He was inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 2010.
Commentary:
The PIL has always been special to me. I came through high school when it was the most powerful prep league in the state. The heart of the league has always been its coaches — hard-working people who were always willing to improve facilities, even in programs that didn’t have some of their built-in advantages of other schools around the state.
