Commentary:

I started playing sports at a very young age. I continued playing thru High School and College. Because my love of sport, the next natural step was to Coach. It gave me an opportunity to give back to the sports that I loved. I had many coaches over the years and was able to pick and choose different ideas and techniques to establish my own coaching style. The ultimate goal is to win, but you want your Student-Athletes to learn, work hard, be a good student, treat each other fairly and enjoy their experiences.

Over the years, I met some great athletes, managers and parents. I couldn’t have been successful without them. I had assistant coaches that dedicated their time and energy to help us succeed. I developed wonderful friendships though the different sports that I coached. Even with all the matches and games that we won, what I will remember the most is the bonding times we had together. In Volleyball, the tournaments in Bend, Medford and going to “Lake of the Woods” at my family’s cabin. In Softball, trips to Pendleton, California and Florida for spring training during Spring break.

There are so many stories to tell that bring a smile to my face. I hope the young women that I coached, cherish their playing days and learned something along the way. Some went on to play and others coached. Some even coached with me. I always told my players, you need to be here, because you want to play the sport. Once you stop enjoying the game it is time to walk away.

After 25 years of coaching, it was time for me to hang up the clipboard and pass on the reins. I will always remember the times we had together and the success we had on and off the court or field. I want to thank the PIL Hall of Fame committee for this tremendous honor and all the young women that helped me grow as a coach and person.
