The Denny Sullivan Scholarship Award was established to honor Denny Sullivan, Cross Country / Track and Field Coach, at Grant High School from the early 1950’s to his final Track and Field season, 1962. During his tenure, his teams had five consecutive years of undefeated dual meets, several City Relay and City Track and Field Championships, and the State of Oregon Championship in 1961. Sully’s Track and Field teams were the best in the history of Grant High School, at that time.
“His” athletes were required to remain academically eligible each season, to remain on course to be eligible for entrance in an institution of higher learning, to be competitive in Cross Country / Track and Field, and to establish goals and accomplish those goals while having their performances be proof of the dedication and hard work.
The Denny Sullivan Scholarship Award will annually honor the top graduating Portland Interscholastic League male and female Cross Country / Track and Field athlete as nominated by their school. The winners of the $10,000 Denny Sullivan Scholarship will be selected by an independent committee taking into consideration outstanding academic achievement, outstanding cross country/track and field achievement, community/school involvement and financial need.
The winners will be honored at the annual Portland Interscholastic League Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony held each October.

Roosevelt High School Dedicates PIL Hall of Fame Board !
From press release:
"Many years in the making, we are proud to share this dedication to our outstanding athletes. Every year the Portland Interscholastic League (PIL) recognizes alumni from the schools in our district who had significant achievements in sports as students and went on to be upstanding citizens. This board contains a plaque for every Roosevelt High School member of the PIL Hall of Fame.
"This board is located in the gym lobby and takes up an entire wall - you see it the moment you walk inside. Every year new plaques will be placed for new members (three coming in 2024). Additionally we will be adding plaques listing all teams that have won PIL Championships, and coaches who have earned PIL Coach of the Year.
"We owe gratitude to the many hands involved in this project. Jason Hutchinson and Jim Kennison (Class of 1974) worked hard on the building of the physical board with the help of the RHS construction class students. The project was funded by members of the following classes: 1958, 1967, 1969, & 1974."
THANKS to Jason, Jim, Megan Hall, the Roosevelt High School Alumni Board and alumni for their support of the PIL HOF!
