2024 Denny Sullivan Award Winners2024 Denny Sullivan Award Winners

The Denny Sullivan Scholarship Award was established to honor Denny Sullivan, Cross Country / Track and Field Coach, at Grant High School from the early 1950’s to his final Track and Field season, 1962. During his tenure, his teams had five consecutive years of undefeated dual meets, several City Relay and City Track and Field Championships, and the State of Oregon Championship in 1961. Sully’s Track and Field teams were the best in the history of Grant High School, at that time.

“His” athletes were required to remain academically eligible each season, to remain on course to be eligible for entrance in an institution of higher learning, to be competitive in Cross Country / Track and Field, and to establish goals and accomplish those goals while having their performances be proof of the dedication and hard work.

The Denny Sullivan Scholarship Award will annually honor the top graduating Portland Interscholastic League male and female Cross Country / Track and Field athlete as nominated by their school. The winners of the $10,000 Denny Sullivan Scholarship will be selected by an independent committee taking into consideration outstanding academic achievement, outstanding cross country/track and field achievement, community/school involvement and financial need.

The winners will be honored at the annual Portland Interscholastic League Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony held each October.
