Post High School Career: Played football for Willamette University before playing three years at Notre Dame, finishing the 1947 season as a member of the National Championship team; played in 1948 College All-Star game against Chicago Cardinals; his teammates on the all-star team were Johnny Lujack, Bobby Layne and Bump Elliott; played two years professionally with the Chicago Rockets
