Commentary:
In grade school, I knew nothing about John Marshall High except that my neighbor went there. I began high school at Benson and transferred immediately because numerous guys I knew from sport in grade school (MLK, Jr.) were going to Benson to build “super teams.” Little did I know that my super team would be known as “The Minute Men.”
A couple other things I did not know. Had no idea how valuable the social and academic education would be in preparing me for life as an adult.
Had no idea that I’d be coached – and mentored – by men who truly cared about my future. Especially Darrell Everett, my Head Football Coach.
Could have never expected that I’d be on a super team in football and win a couple of city titles.
Most importantly I was fortunate to earn a full ride to Arizona State (following the great Woody Green) where I met my wife and really began my journey in life.
What fertile ground was Marshall and I am still thanking.” God for the opportunity to grow as a Man of God from high school on the super team at Marshall High.
