Outstanding two-sport athlete; named All-City guard in basketball; pitched varsity baseball for three years, winning the PIL his sophomore year and finishing as runner-up in the state playoffs; named to the All-City team his junior and senior years and was 9-1 as a pitcher and batted .486 as an outfielder his senior year; pitched team to state championship, striking out 12 while allowing only three hits
Post-High School Career
Played baseball four years at University of Portland and was NCAA All-Coast pitcher his senior year; coached 1963 and 1964 Madison baseball teams to state championships after winning PIL title each of those years; served as Madison AD from 1966 to 1988, before moving to the PIL District AD office until his retirement in 1991
