Commentary
Growing up on a street full of boys, “street ball” wasn’t just a game — it was a way of life. We’d run outside the moment we could, playing until we heard the unmistakable sound of the cowbell calling us home for dinner. (Yes, my mom had — and still has — a cowbell, and she rang it loud and proud!)
As I got older, sports became my outlet. I was an extremely shy child, but when I stepped onto a court, track, or field, I was fearless. Athletics gave me a voice and a space to grow.
The drive to chase goals and push for personal bests — lessons I learned through sports — continue to shape my career today. I’m deeply grateful to Wilson High School and the PIL for nurturing my passion for athletics, giving me the opportunity to coach future generations, and helping build the foundation of who I am.
Now, with the birth of my first child in July 2025, I’m excited to see where his own passions will lead him — whether they’re found on the court or somewhere entirely his own.
